...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT EASTERN CATAWBA AND CENTRAL
IREDELL COUNTIES THROUGH 800 PM EDT...
At 713 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 7 miles north of Statesville to 11 miles
southeast of Taylorsville to 5 miles north of Newton. Movement was
southeast at 20 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Statesville, Newton, Conover, Troutman, Claremont, Catawba, Lake
Norman State Park, Lookout Shoals Lake, Stony Point, and Lake Norman.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
If on or near the northern portions of Lake Norman, get out of the
water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can
strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to
safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
